Anticorrosion Viscoelastic Tape For Pipelines And More
Viscoelastic anti-corrosion tape V-Act® by OTA Fiberglass is a new anti-corrosion product specially researched and designed for buried pipelines and other heterogeneous equipment that require anti-corrosion such as flanges, valves, pumps, etc
The main characteristic of this coating material is its permanent visco-elastic behavior. In other words, it will stay in a high viscous fluid phase even after years of application. Due to this visco-elastic property, the system can self-heal small coating defects. Therefore, it features excellent anti-corrosion properties as the adhesion between the substrate (iron) and the coating viscous and elastic nature perpetually attaches and flows into the substrate. Usually, the basic raw material for a visco elastic coating is “PIB” or polymerized isobutylene. PIB is amorphous and inert material, which has no health hazards or impact on the environment.
We use polyethylene (PE) backing tapes or self-adhesive PVC tapes outer armory for application over inner layer grades of Viscoelastic tapes in certain applications where mechanical protection is required. The full tension pressure and compression generated by these easily stretched outer wrap tapes significantly improve the adhesion and self-healing properties of the inner V-Act® Viscoelastic tape. So this PE/PVC mechanical tape serves to add outer wrap-mechanical corrosion protection and hoop pressure.
In other words, the visco-elastic layer/PIB tape is used as the base layer tape on the substrate. On top of the PIB layer, we add another mechanical tape/backing tape to protect against mechanical and puncture impacts. So the anti-corrosion tape system consists of 2 layers: The anti-corrosive inner layer of polyisobutylene and a PVC/PE-based mechanical outer layer.

Application of Viscoelastic Tape
The visco-elastic anti-corrosion tape (viscoelastic tape) is a non-cure, cold-applied corrosion prevention wrap adhering extremely well to the plant coating PE, PP, FBE, and irregular equipment such as flanges, valves, pipe fittings, rings, manhole, etc. Since OTA V-Act Visco-elastic tape can cold flow into the substrate, it can prevent corrosion as a comprehensive solution under extreme conditions. Hence, it reduces the need for ongoing maintenance and inspection and lowers costs.
Viscoelastic Tape: Product Composition
Visco-elastic tape is based on a compound that consists of non-crystalline, low-viscosity, non-crosslinked ( fully amorphous ), non-reactive polyisobutene.
Product Description – Visco Elastic Adhesive tape
OTA V-Act® 800 is a Visco elastic adhesive tape is a new type of high-performance Visco-Elastic polyolefin material.
